Heavy equipment operator school

Seat time is what matters.

School guide

Equipment schools promise to get you on a dozer fast. Some deliver. The key is how many hours you actually spend running machines.

In short

Heavy equipment operator schools teach safety, maintenance and operation of machines like excavators, dozers, loaders and graders, often in a few weeks to a few months. The biggest quality factor is seat time: hours spent operating real equipment. Operating engineers union apprenticeships are a paid alternative that take three to four years and include more seat time and job placement.
