In short
ShapeMyCareer introduces people who want trade training to schools and training providers near them that teach what they picked. A student answers five short questions, agrees to be contacted, and we match them by trade and ZIP code. We ask schools to be accredited, put the total cost in writing, share placement numbers, honor requests to stop, and not pressure anyone. Schools and training providers may pay us when they enroll or are contacted by someone we introduce. To talk about being listed, email us.
What a student tells us
Every person fills out the same short form. Here's what a school can expect to know about them.
| Question | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Which trade | What they're interested in learning |
| How far they got in school | Whether they have a diploma or GED, some high school, some college or a degree |
| 18 or older | The form asks. This service is for adults 18 and older. |
| Military | Whether they're a veteran, active duty, a military spouse or none |
| When and how | When they want to start and whether they want in-person, online or either |
| Name, ZIP code, phone, email | How to reach them, and where they live |
| Consent | They agree to be contacted by us and by schools matched to their request, including by automated technology. They can reply STOP at any time. |
We never ask for a Social Security number, bank or card numbers, or a government ID, and you shouldn't either on our behalf.
How matching works
We match by the trade a person picked and their ZIP code. A school that teaches that trade near that ZIP code can be introduced. We don't rank schools, and not every school is listed. We aren't a school, and we don't make admission, financial aid or hiring decisions. That stays with you.
Are you a student looking for training?
This page is for schools. The form is for you. Five questions, about two minutes.
What we expect from schools
We tell students what to ask a school: Is it accredited? Will it put the total cost in writing? Will it share last year's job placement numbers? We expect schools we work with to be ready to answer all three, plainly.
- Be accredited, and say by whom. Students can check the U.S. Department of Education database, and we send them to it.
- Put the total cost in writing: tuition, fees, books, tools, testing.
- Share real placement numbers, not promises.
- Say what aid applies. If your program is approved for something like Workforce Pell or the GI Bill, say which program and say it exactly.
- Honor a request to stop. If someone replies STOP or says no, that's the end of it.
- Don't pressure people. Students know a school will pitch them. They also know they can say no.
- Don't ask for sensitive data like Social Security numbers, bank or card numbers over text or email.
If a school pushes too hard, students can tell us, and we take that seriously.
How we're paid
Schools and training providers may pay us when they enroll or are contacted by someone we introduce. Students are never charged by us. We'll go over terms with schools by email. We don't promise volume, enrollments or results.
Talk to us
We don't have a phone line. Email is the way to reach us: [email protected]. A good first message includes:
- Your school or provider's name and website
- The campuses and the trades you teach
- Your accreditation, and who accredits you
- Any program approvals that matter to students, like Workforce Pell or GI Bill approval
- The best person to contact
Questions from schools
Are you a lead aggregator or a school?
We're a free information and referral service. We aren't a school, and we don't offer training. We introduce people to schools.
Do students pay you?
No. Students never pay us.
Do you guarantee a certain number of leads or enrollments?
No. We don't promise volume, enrollments or results.
Can you list my school in every city?
We match by the trade a student picks and their ZIP code. Not every school is listed, and we don't rank them.
How do I get started?
