# Welding school cost

What you really pay for, and how to compare schools.

Cost

Welding school prices vary a lot between community colleges and private schools. Rather than guess at a number, here is what goes into the price and how to get a real one.

In short

Welding school cost depends on program length and the type of school. Community college programs often cost less than private trade schools for in-district students. Beyond tuition, budget for safety gear, a helmet, tools, consumables, certification test fees and any income you give up while training. Ask every school for a written total cost, its net price calculator results and its job placement data.

**Sources checked October 11, 2026** Pay, training and outlook come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Pay is the middle (median) figure nationally; your first paycheck in the trade will usually be lower.
