# Apprenticeships for veterans

Military skills, GI Bill money and a direct line into the trades.

For veterans

Veterans bring exactly what apprenticeship sponsors want: discipline, safety habits and often hands-on technical training. Two programs make the jump easier.

In short

Veterans can enter trade apprenticeships through Helmets to Hardhats, a program that connects service members and veterans with union building trades apprenticeships, or apply directly to any registered apprenticeship. Eligible veterans can use GI Bill benefits during an approved apprenticeship or on-the-job training program, receiving a monthly housing payment on top of apprentice wages. Some programs give credit for related military training.

**Sources checked October 10, 2026** Pay, training and outlook come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Pay is the middle (median) figure nationally; your first paycheck in the trade will usually be lower.
